If your motor vehicle is used for public transport or is a heavy-load vehicle (excluding buses), you must take it to be tested for roadworthiness every year before you renew the motor vehicle licence. A bus must be tested for roadworthiness every six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is your responsibility as the owner of a vehicle to have your vehicle tested. You can take it to a private or public vehicle testing station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the roadworthy test, if passed, a notice is issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>What you should do<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Go to the nearest vehicle testing station with the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>vehicle\u2019s registration certificate<\/li><li>identity document (ID)<\/li><li>prescribed fee.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete the Application for certification of roadworthiness (ACR) form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>How long does it take<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The application is processed on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>How much does it cost<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact the relevant testing station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Forms to complete<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Forms are obtainable at your nearest testing station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Temporary or special motor vehicle permit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4>About temporary or special motor vehicle permit<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A temporary motor vehicle permit is valid for 21 days and is used for a motor vehicle that is registered, licenced and roadworthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A temporary permit is used under the following circumstances:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Delivering the vehicle within the Republic to the owner,<\/li><li>Delivering the vehicle within the Republic by or to a motor dealer, or<\/li><li>Registering and licensing purposes<\/li><li>Only one permit is issued per vehicle ownership.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A special motor vehicle permit is valid for three days only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A special motor vehicle permit is used under the following circumstances:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Testing such motor vehicle;<\/li><li>Proceeding to or returning from a place within the Republic where repairs are to be or have been effected to such motor vehicle;<\/li><li>Reaching an examiner of vehicles or mass measuring apparatus; or<\/li><li>Repossessing such motor vehicle as contemplated in regulation 69<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that a vehicle with a special permit may not carry goods or passengers. There is no limit to the number of permits that can be issued per ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>What you should do<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Go to the nearest registering authority with the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>a copy of your identity document<\/li><li>the prescribed fee.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete an Application for a Temporary\/Special Permit (TSP1) form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>How long does it take<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The application is processed on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>How much does it cost<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact your local licencing office for the cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Forms to complete<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Application for Temporary\/Special Permit form (TSP1) which is available from the registering authority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Roadworthiness certificate About a roadworthy certificate You must have your motor vehicle tested for roadworthiness before you register it in your name.
