Ms. Pemy Gasela is a distinguished climate change negotiator and policy strategist with more than 15 years of experience in multilateral environmental diplomacy, climate technology policy, and international trade.
As a member of the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC), she contributes strategic guidance on the development and transfer of climate technologies, with a particular focus on equity, national capacity-building, and sustainable development for developing countries.
In her role as Chief Director of International Climate Change Relations and Reporting within South Africa’s Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Ms. Gasela oversees the country’s international climate change engagements, including the formulation of national positions under the UNFCCC and alignment of domestic policies with global developments.
She also leads the coordination of interdepartmental and stakeholder consultations, ensuring inclusivity and coherence in South Africa’s international climate agenda.
Ms. Gasela has extensive experience in negotiating trade and environment rules, making her a strong advocate for technology frameworks that bridge climate, economic growth, and social justice.
